| for anyone that wants to vacation in hawaii (or pretty much anywhere else), i suggest renting a condo or home rather than staying at a resort.
case in point: i'm going on a week-long vacation in Kona next month. I originally wanted to stay at the Marriott Waikoloa resort, but a 7 nights at the discounted rate for Hawaii-locals, was $1400.
Instead, I'm staying at a one-bedroom condo that includes parking for $550. Got a deal on car rental @ $140/week + airfare at $120. Total: $810 Even if i were flying from the mainland (+$500), everything is still less than hotel alone.
so my traveling friends, go take your spring break trip to hawaii and save some money. Find your next vacation rental at: www.vrbo.com www.homeaway.com
"say good-bye to these, Michael, because it'll be the last time you see them. Spring break! Whoo!" (shameless Arrested Development reference)

| having a great, supportive boss is really important. and i'm lucky i have one of those. i happen to be the same age as his daughter, so we joke around that i'm his son and he's my father (i.e. when i'm at another office and he calls there, he asks if his son is around).
he also lets me get away with taking these kinds of photos and printing them and putting them in the office.
he's not mad, just sorta looks like a monkey.

thanks for all the congrats, everyone! <2 months! ROAR!

| it's been over 3 months since i wrote on this thing. so i'll start with the great news from newest to oldest.
1) UCLA > USC! watched the game tonight and i never doubted!
2) got a new car. C and I got a 2008 Honda CR-V EX-L AWD a two weeks ago. it's great! got the back windows tinted super dark and look gangsta now. the car's name is "Donkey" because it can haul (fill in the blank). you know: haul groceries, haul surfboards, haul _____...
3) fell asleep at 11:30 new year's eve.
4) bought C a box of malasadas from Leonard's (best on island) in november. it's not what you think in the red box. i faked her out. hahahaha. but the real surprise right after. 5) i turned 28 in october.

| well, reality bites in the sense like "wow, this is real."
some random thoughts:
- a lot of times, i forget i live in hawaii.
- i'm the only UCLA grad that one of the maintenance guys has ever met. but i wonder how many UH grads you meet in LA, eh?
- my parents would probably trip out when they find out that i've been asked to help mow the lawn at work. parents: "you have a UCLA degree and mow the lawn for work?!" yeah, i guess since my job description ends with "and other duties as assigned." but it ain't all that bad. i'm like the perfect "office space" case. i highly recommend that movie to any office worker.
- i feel like an old man because i can't stay out late anymore. i really can't.
- on the other hand, i still feel like i'm 22 or so. even though i'm turning 28 next month.
- i'm flying home for thanksgiving. that makes 5 flights i'm making home this year. more than any time i went home while living in LA. (5 hour flight from HNL vs. 1 hour flight from LA).
- i miss traveling. i really miss traveling.
- i love surfing.
- i want to travel somewhere and go surfing there.
- holy smokes, my twin sister is getting married next month.
